Since its initial release in 1989, Trajan has risen to international popularity as a distinctive and versatile display typeface. Twombly completed the design, adding numerals and punctuation, as well as a bolder version to allow for text emphasis. Once you know Trajan, you’ll notice it everywhere. Overview While designing Trajan, Carol Twombly was influenced by the style of carved letters produced by the Romans during the first century AD. The family is offered in six weights ranging from Light to Extra Bold, with language coverage for Pan-European Latin, Cyrillic and Greek. It has been used for Titanic, Lord of the Rings, The Mummy, and many more. Even Hollywood has embraced Trajan, giving it a starring role as the movie-poster-font. It has been used in England for government documents, and municipal signage throughout the country. ‘Adobe Originals’ was founded, and thankfully their team was able to preserve this historic font and bring it to the public in 1989.ĭue to their efforts, Trajan has become a staple in our modern society.
